Casa Loma

Casa Loma
As a child I was fascinated by the incredible castles of Europe and asked my Dad if we would ever be able to visit
a castle. He said "How about next weekend" and proceeded to tell me about Casa Loma. I had no idea that there was
actually a magnificent castle in Toronto. True to his word I was exploring an honest to goodness real castle the following
weekend. I have toured Casa Loma several times since then and highly recommend it.
You won't be disappointed so make it a "must see" if you are ever in the Toronto area.
Located on Austin Terrace in Toronto, ON Canada, Casa Loma was built between 1911 and 1914 by
Financier Sir Henry Pellatt. It contains 98 rooms and encompasses 64,700 square feet (6,011 square metres).
The castle contains 2 Secret Passages as well as a long underground tunnel which leads to The Casa Loma Stables
and Hunting Lodge. The stables are located at 330 Walmer Road and the Hunting Lodge is located at 328 Walmer Road.
In 1924 the City of Toronto seized Casa Loma due to Sir Henry's inability to pay the property taxes (thanks in some
part to the fact that the City raised his taxes by 2000% during the depression shortly after WW1).
The Kiwanis Club leased Casa Loma for 74 years from 1937 to 2011. In 2014 the Liberty Entertainment Group took over the lease
and opened a high-end restaurant there in the summer of 2017. If $200.00 steaks are within your budget
(they're not within mine) I'm sure you'll have one of the best meals ever.
