I am happy to introduce you to Gwen and her gallery of cute little
drawings and sketches. She is the creator of these original drawing
ideas. I always say, regardless of the drawing skills of the author, we
can always find a couple of great ideas in virtually any drawing if we
observe well the details.
Both versions of her “Two Sleeping Cats” are very nice. The point here
is: the color variation applied on the same drawing. If you have similar
drawing where a different coloring variation can be applied, do it! You
will create the same picture multiplied - cloned instantly.
It may sound a bit exaggerated here, but Andy Warhol used the very same
coloring technique on some of his art prints. The idea of changing the
colors is super simple and genius.
You may also have most likely noticed the boom of “coloring books” in
recent years. A so called “therapy by art”. Well, Gwen’s “Bird House”
sketch is a fantastic idea suitable for creating such coloring book
theme. I got this impression instantly when I saw her Bird House sketch.
Her sketch may look too simple but the idea is great.
Have you heard about the “Secret Garden” coloring book series? Currently
available on Amazon or in your local bookstore. These coloring books
took the world of art by storm just a couple of years ago. These type of
coloring books are for people who think they cannot draw – because they did not try my drawing tutorials on this website yet.
All these coloring books have guidelines (silhouettes) ready, you just
fill up the color and the pictures are ready. The results are often
stunning - if you use the right colors.
This Bird House concept would look absolutely great if polished and
perfected into a coloring page. It would need some extra detailed work,
but I am sure the effort would be well worth of it. Just imagine you can
color this awesome picture with vivid bright colors on beautiful garden
background, flowers in full bloom and blue skies.
You see, even such seemingly “insignificant” small sketch with Bird
House has a serious potential to become a great concept idea for
coloring book that thousands of us would absolutely love to color. I am
sure Gwen did this drawing out of pure inspiration. Good job!
